Coffee Books &Dragons

"If the sky could dream, it would dream of dragons." – L. Andrews

Back from the Dead | Author’s Note

I have not touched a blog in a little over a year. Which is a shame really because I loved blogging.

I loved typing away all of my feelings on an author, a genre, or (in most cases) multiple books. It gave me (oh, I’m Alex, btw – nice to meet you!) a way to connect with other book lovers without being … well, there.

Yeah, I was a shy kid back when I first started blogging.🫣

But I’m an adult now! I’ve grown…matured…learned–something…at some point…hopefully?

That being said, I want to make something clear. I really loved blogging back then. Now, some would say I let life get in the way. I don’t make time for myself anymore. I lose myself in mundane things.

Then, my 26th birthday came tumbling down on me without so much as a warning.

I enjoyed my birthday, don’t get me wrong! It’s just that…well, reality hit me. Really hard, actually.

I realized that I, in fact, make zero time for myself. I don’t stop to enjoy the things that I know I loved before life got in the way. I literally let all of my passions die in front of me. And, to top it off, I didn’t even give them a proper funeral.

So, as a present to myself, I am resurrecting those passions – starting with this blog.

Coffee, Books, and Dragons was originally going to be an outlet where I could type out all of my opinions and frustrations on all-things books.

Which, it still will be! Just with a little update. 💻

I really want to start including more content on this blog besides your average word-vomit post (ya’ know, like the one you’re reading right now). Think videos, polls, recipes to my favorite reading snacks, and much more.

I know it sounds intimidating for one person to do – especially when said person has just finished rambling on about how she doesn’t make time to slap words on a page anymore. But, not to worry. I know that all of that dreamy content will take time and there is bound to be trial and error.

So, until I am able to figure out how all of this works, I hope you will enjoy the occasional bookish ramblings from this 26-year-old grandma.

Alongside blogging, I want to get back into writing again.

If anyone from the original blog or anyone who has followed me on Insta for a while remembers, I talked briefly about my writing endeavors. Mainly, about a middle-grade fantasy that I still hope to one day have put on shelves.

It has been years since I started that story and, sadly, I am still in the first draft(s).

Why?

Well, to be honest, I am scared to finish it. What if it isn’t how I imagined it would be? What if publishers shoo it off of their desks? What if readers don’t want to read it?

These questions plaque most of my writing – including this post. However, I believe I am finally brave enough to start facing my fears (not so brave to go to a public bathroom alone though, I’ll give you that).

At this point, just finishing the first draft of any of my projects would make me literally jump for joy. Perhaps fellow writers out there will understand this…or perhaps, I am alone with this thought.

Either way, I really want to make my younger self proud by finally writing that ending she always wanted. To do that, you can expect writing updates from me every month that detail my struggles, successes, and progress on my writing projects. ✍️

I also thought of posting a story or two on here once in a while – you know, for fun!

When I first created this blog, I didn’t really know what I wanted it to be. Mainly, I just wanted to ramble on about my favorite books and do fun tags every now and then.

Now, when I think about what Coffee, Books, & Dragons, I dream of a fun community. One where we all can gather around and discuss our favorite books, current writing endeavors, tv shows, food, and so, so much more.

All over a nice cup of coffee, of course. ☕

I want you to have just as much fun and freedom on here as I do.

If you loved a book I hated, give me that long paragraph explaining why I should give it another shot…

If you have a writing project of your own, tell me about it – How far are you? What’s it about? Do you believe in happy endings?

If coffee isn’t your favorite, feel free to fix your beverage of choice and tell me all about that book you’ve been reading…

This is your safe place to discuss all the things but just know that my favorite conversations always include Coffee, Books, & Dragons.

Take care and I hope to talk to you soon.

With love, Alex

In case I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Alex and I identify as a 26-year-old grandma. I love cozying up with a fuzzy blanket, reading a book, all while sipping on a warm beverage…oh, you thought I was going to say coffee? Well, you wouldn’t be wrong! ☕️📚
