My Cozy Sunday Reset: Getting My Life Together Before Monday

Sunday has two very different personalities.

There’s the Sunday where you’re curled up with a book, drinking coffee, and pretending Monday doesn’t exist.

And then there’s the Sunday where you suddenly remember at 7:42 PM that there are no clean work clothes, you have no idea what’s for dinner tomorrow, the sink is full, and you probably should’ve washed that cup you need for your morning coffee.

I’ve experienced both.

And personally, I’m trying to have fewer of the second kind. 😂

That’s where my Sunday Reset comes in.

It’s not a picture-perfect, wake-up-at-6-AM-and-deep-clean-the-baseboards kind of reset. I have absolutely no interest in spending my entire Sunday preparing for Monday.

Instead, it’s my way of taking a few hours to put the house—and my brain—back together before another busy week begins.

There are usually four things on the agenda:

Laundry. Dishes. Planning. Meal prep.

Coffee is also involved.

Obviously.

☕ First Things First: Coffee

I’m not resetting anything until I’ve had coffee.

Those are the rules.

I like starting Sunday a little slower when I can. Coffee first, enjoy breakfast with the family, maybe even a chapter or two…and then I figure out what actually needs my attention that day.

And I think that’s an important part of my reset.

I’m not starting with a giant list of everything I could clean.

I’m asking:

What can I do today that will make this coming week easier?

Because there’s always something else I could do.

The baseboards will survive.

🧺 Laundry: Because Apparently It Never Ends

I’m convinced laundry is less of a household chore and more of a subscription service I accidentally signed up for.

You finish it.

You celebrate.

You turn around.

There’s more laundry.

Sunday is when I try to get the important stuff handled first: clothes for the upcoming week, towels, baby things, and anything else we’re going to need immediately.

I’m not necessarily trying to achieve the mythical Empty Laundry Basket™.

I’m just trying to make sure Monday morning doesn’t begin with:

“WHERE ARE MY PANTS?”

Anything beyond that is a bonus.

🫧 Resetting the Kitchen

This one makes one of the biggest differences for me.

There’s something about waking up Monday morning to a messy kitchen that makes the entire week feel like it’s already gotten ahead of me.

So Sunday usually means:

  • Getting the dishes washed and put away
  • Clearing the counters
  • Throwing away anything questionable in the refrigerator
  • Taking out the trash if needed
  • Making sure the coffee station is ready for Monday morning

That last one is obviously the most important.

Walking into a relatively clean kitchen Monday morning and being able to immediately make coffee?

10/10. Highly recommend.

📝 The Weekly Brain Dump

Once the house is somewhat under control, I need to do the same thing with my brain.

Because somehow my brain believes the best time to remind me about an appointment three weeks from now is at 2:14 AM.

So I get everything out of my head and onto paper.

I look at what’s happening during the upcoming week and write down anything I need to remember:

Appointments.

Bills.

Work.

School.

Blog posts.

Groceries.

Errands.

Random things I’ve been telling myself I’ll remember.

Spoiler: I will not remember.

Then I figure out what actually needs to happen this week versus what would simply be nice to accomplish.

That’s been a big one for me.

Because if I put 47 things on my weekly to-do list, I’m not suddenly going to become a person capable of doing 47 things.

I’m just going to have a very intimidating piece of paper.

🥗 Meal Prep—But Make It Realistic

Meal prep used to sound like something that required seventeen matching containers and an entire Sunday afternoon.

Thankfully, it doesn’t.

My goal isn’t necessarily to have every meal completely cooked and portioned for the entire week.

I just want food to be easier.

Sometimes that means cooking a couple meals ahead.

Sometimes it’s prepping ingredients.

Sometimes it’s portioning snacks, washing produce, or figuring out which dinners we’re having on which nights.

And sometimes meal prep is simply making sure I actually bought food that can become a meal instead of five completely unrelated ingredients and a dream.

We’ve all been there. 😂

The biggest thing is eliminating that “What are we eating tonight?” conversation after a long day.

Because that’s usually when takeout starts sounding really convincing.

🏡 The Little Things That Make Monday Better

Once the big four are handled, I like doing a few tiny things for Future Me.

Nothing dramatic.

Maybe I refill something that’s running low.

Set out what I need for the morning.

Straighten up the living room.

Pack what needs to leave the house with me.

Charge my devices.

Look over Monday’s schedule one more time.

They’re tiny tasks, but Monday morning me appreciates Sunday me tremendously for doing them.

She’s a good friend like that.

📚 And Then…I Stop

This might actually be the most important part of my Sunday Reset.

The reset has to end.

I don’t want Sunday to become another workday.

The entire point of doing this is to make life feel a little less chaotic—not to spend six hours cleaning the house and collapse into bed wondering where my weekend went.

So once I’ve handled the things that will make the biggest difference, I’m done.

Whatever didn’t happen can wait.

Then it’s time for something that actually feels like Sunday.

A shower.

Comfy clothes.

A book or audiobook.

Something cozy on TV.

Playing with my son.

Hanging out with my husband.

Maybe another cup of coffee if I’m feeling dangerous.

And absolutely no starting a random organizing project at 8 PM.

I’ve learned my lesson.

Mostly.

🐉 Creating a Softer Start to the Week

My Sunday Reset isn’t really about having a spotless house.

It isn’t about becoming perfectly organized.

And it definitely isn’t about squeezing every ounce of productivity out of my weekend.

It’s about creating a little breathing room.

When Monday morning comes, the laundry isn’t screaming at me. The kitchen is usable. There’s food in the fridge. I know what’s happening that week.

Life isn’t magically organized.

But it feels a little more manageable.

And right now, that’s enough.

I’m learning that intentional living doesn’t always look like slow mornings, candles, and beautifully organized spaces.

Sometimes it looks like folding laundry while listening to an audiobook.

Sometimes it’s washing the dishes you really don’t feel like washing.

Sometimes it’s chopping vegetables so exhausted Wednesday-night-you doesn’t have to.

And sometimes it’s knowing when you’ve done enough and sitting down with your coffee.

Maybe that’s what my version of cozy living really is:

Doing little things today that make tomorrow feel a little softer.

And I think that’s a Sunday ritual worth keeping. ☕🏡

Do you have a Sunday Reset routine? What’s the ONE thing you have to get done before Monday to feel like you have your life together?

☕🐉 See you in the next chapter.
