October Things: What I’m Reading, Loving & Looking Forward To 🍂

Hello, October. 🍂

I’m not entirely sure how we got here already.

September feels like it lasted approximately five minutes—and somehow I managed to cram about three months’ worth of life into those five minutes. Between school projects, changes at work, keeping up with everyday life, and raising a tiny human, I spent most of the month moving from one thing to the next.

Then suddenly, it was September 30th.

And I was tired.

So October is arriving at exactly the right time.

The mornings are finally getting cooler here in Georgia, pumpkin has made its way back into my coffee, and I’m slowly trying to convince my brain that spooky season has, in fact, arrived. (Though, to be honest, it’s still putting up a fight. 😂)

More than anything, though, I want this month to feel a little different. I want to actually notice it. The cool mornings. The good books. The coffee runs. My baby’s first Halloween. All those tiny, ordinary moments that are so easy to miss when life gets busy.

But before I get too sentimental on you, let’s get into the fun stuff.

Here’s what I’m reading, drinking, loving, and looking forward to this October. ☕📚🎃

📖 What I’m Reading

Apparently, spooky season has yet to hit me this year. In fact, I may still be in denial that it’s even October. 😂 But I’m trying my best to get there!

Right now, I’m reading The Rules of Magic by Alice Hoffman and The Deal by Elle Kennedy—which feels like a pretty accurate representation of my reading mood at the moment.

One foot is cautiously stepping into the witchy, magical vibes of October, while the other is still firmly planted in romance.

Maybe The Rules of Magic will finally be the book that flips the spooky-season switch in my brain. Until then, I’m just going to keep lighting the fall candles, drinking something vaguely seasonal, and hoping October eventually catches up with me. 🍂

☕ What I’m Drinking

If my reading mood hasn’t gotten the memo that it’s fall yet, at least my coffee has.

I am currently obsessed with my at-home Iced Pumpkin Cold Foam Espresso. It’s ridiculously easy to make, perfect for grabbing on my way out the door, and has just enough pumpkin flavor to officially earn the title of my fall drink without tasting like I’m drinking a pumpkin pie.

At this point, I think this little coffee is single-handedly carrying me into spooky season—and honestly? I’m okay with that. 🎃☕

🧡 What I’m Loving

I’m absolutely loving the cool mornings we’ve been getting here in Georgia lately.

There’s just something so satisfying about waking up, stepping outside, and realizing that—yes—fall has finally arrived. 🍂

After months of Georgia heat and humidity, that first little chill in the morning air feels like a reward.

It may still warm up later in the day (because, well…Georgia 😂), but for those first few hours in the morning? I’m soaking up every second of it.

Give me a cool morning, a cozy sweatshirt, and an iced pumpkin coffee, and suddenly I’m a little more willing to admit that summer is actually over.

🎃 What I’m Looking Forward To

Without a doubt, the thing I’m looking forward to most this month is my baby’s first Halloween! 🥹🎃

My husband and I cannot wait to dress him up as the little pumpkin that he is and have him help us hand out candy this year.

Giving out Halloween candy is something we take very seriously in our house. We take pride in being one of the good candy houses. 😂 And this year, we get to have the cutest little helper sitting with us.

I know he won’t remember his first Halloween, but I will.

There’s something really special about getting to experience all of these little “firsts” with him and slowly bringing him into the traditions we already love as a family.

So, yes, I may still be working on getting myself into the spooky-season spirit…but I have a feeling one tiny pumpkin is going to fix that. 🧡

🍁 My October Intention: Slow Down

My intention for October is actually pretty simple: slow down.

September was busy. Between projects at school, making some major changes at work, keeping up with the blog, and—oh yeah—caring for a baby, “worn out” doesn’t even begin to describe how I felt by September 30th.

And I don’t want October to feel the same way.

I don’t want to rush through an entire month just trying to make it to the next assignment, the next shift, or the next thing on my to-do list. Especially when there are so many little moments happening around me that I actually want to remember.

So, this month is about slowing down.

Take my time. Tune in. Enjoy every memorable moment.

I want to drink my coffee while it’s still cold, sit outside and enjoy those cool Georgia mornings, read because I want to read, and soak up every second of my baby’s first Halloween.

There will still be assignments. There will still be work. There will definitely still be laundry. 😂 But October doesn’t have to be another month I simply survive.

I’d much rather actually be here for it.

Here’s to a Slower October 🍂

Maybe October doesn’t need to be packed with plans to be memorable.

Maybe it can just be cool mornings and good coffee. A book open on the couch. Tiny Halloween pajamas. A little pumpkin sitting beside us while we hand out candy. A few moments where I remember to put down the to-do list and actually look around.

September reminded me just how quickly a month can disappear when I’m constantly thinking about what comes next.

So this October, I’m trying something different.

I’m slowing down.

I’m tuning in.

And hopefully, by the time November rolls around, I won’t be wondering where October went. I’ll be able to look back and remember actually being there for it. 🧡

Now I want to hear about your October things! What are you reading? What are you loving lately? And what’s one thing you’re looking forward to this month?

Until next time,

Alex ☕📚🐉
